[August 2, 2016, Shanghai] — The "Green Development, Shared Future" 2016 Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Outstanding Case Selection Activity recently announced its winners after three months of professional evaluation. 3M, a leading global diversified technology innovation company, once again stood out from hundreds of entries with its renowned green environmental protection program—the 3P Pollution Prevention Investment Project—winning the "Green Supply Chain of the Year" award. This award also recognizes 3M's efforts and contributions to environmental protection in China.
“This selection of outstanding cases provides an excellent opportunity and platform for companies committed to fulfilling their corporate social responsibility, and will also encourage more companies to join the ranks of green development,” said Xue Yong, Director of Strategy, E-commerce and Marketing Communications, 3M Greater China. “In the future, 3M will continue its efforts, fully leveraging its innovative advantages, focusing on environmental protection and sustainable development, and actively participating in creating a social atmosphere of ‘green innovation and shared development.’”
The award-winning 3P Pollution Prevention Investment Plan is an environmental protection project launched by 3M as early as 1975 and implemented to this day to prevent pollution at its source. As the first foreign-invested enterprise established outside the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone after the reform and opening up, 3M has been actively implementing this plan, which benefits the survival and development of future generations, in China since entering the country in 1984. From 2010 to 2015, 3M China certified and implemented 735 3P projects, achieving a reduction of nearly 3,100 tons of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), water savings of 16,100 tons, a reduction of 76,900 tons of solid waste, and a reduction of 40,000 tons of greenhouse gas emissions. The successful implementation of this plan demonstrates 3M's commitment to closely linking its corporate development strategy with China's development pace, and its determination to "be rooted in China and serve China."
This selection activity was jointly organized by Jiefang Daily, Shanghai Daily, and Eastday.com, under the guidance of the Shanghai Municipal Government Information Office, the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce, and the Shanghai Municipal Environmental Protection Bureau. After combining the opinions of the expert review panel and the results of public voting, the organizers ultimately selected outstanding cases that combined innovation, exemplary practices, and sustainable development. Meanwhile, this event also attracted over 400,000 clicks and nearly 60,000 votes through new media platforms, gaining widespread social attention and further promoting the deepening of the concept of green and harmonious development.
